Biography
Born in Basse-Pointe, a small town on the northeast coast of Martinique in the French Caribbean, Aime Cesaire was a playwright, poet and politician. His epic, Return to My Native Land, first published in 1939, was produced and performed by Cy Grant as a one-man show in 1971. His other plays include, the Tragedy of King Christophe, A Season in the Congo, an an adaptation of Shakespeare’s The Tempest.
