Biography
Malika Booker is a writer, spoken word and multidisciplinary artist of Guyanese and Grenadian parentage. She was born in the UK, but spent thirteen years of her childhood in Guyana and her love of story-telling was borne from her time in Guyana, where her grandmother would recite stories to her. Booker’s first theatre show, Absolution, was commissioned by Battersea Arts Centre and the Austrian Cultural Institute in 1999. Her first musical play Catwalk was commissioned by NITRO. It ran at the Tricycle Theatre in June 2001 and toured the UK. In 2000 Booker founded ‘Malika’s Kitchen’, a writers’ collective based in London and Chicago which offers help and opportunities to aspiring writers.
