Synopsis

In the week leading up to the youth trials for his beloved Aston Villa football club, Birmingham school boy Mark, whose twin ambition is to be both a legendary poet and world class striker, must screen out the noise of his violent father, a preacher who berates and beats Mark’s mother. As Mark’s football preparations and musings on religion and life continue apace, his father’s violence towards his mother increases.
